We provided high quality signage and vinyl wallpapers to complete the vibrant and beautiful look at this popular inner-city restaurant, while working closely with the interior designer to meet architect and client specifications. Our work elevated the look, feel and attractiveness of this sought-after venue.
White + Wong’s is a popular Auckland restaurant on the top floor of the Newmarket’s Westfield shopping mall. Serving classic Asian street foods, seating up to 380 guests inside and outdoors. The client needed a variety of vibrant signage and custom wallpapers that would reflect Asian street style and create different zones in the large dining space, centred around the restaurant bar and its neighbour, Sardine bar, owned by the same company.
Project Management
Working closely with the interior designer, we project managed the design, manufacture and installation of signs and wallpaper (designed by the customer’s designer) for the space, ensuring our products met the brief, while taking care to protect furniture and fixtures during the installation.
Design, Industrial Design, Fabrication Signs
Our industrial design and engineering expertise were well utilised in this project. The circular White + Wong’s illuminated sign was created using an industrial design and engineering system to create the perfect circle, conceal wiring, and place the logo on a hidden frame. Letters were manufactured from poured acrylic to reduce waste. The sign can be set to one colour or to change colours.
A large colourful and bright caged neon sign was required for a street exterior look. Our industrial designers developed a unique system allowing the neon to be swapped with ease while it remained in the cage, and on a clear background. The brief for Sardine bar was for a sign that emulated a sardine can. We created an opal acrylic face which illuminates and completed it with acrylic lettering in a gold frame.
Wallpapers
Custom-designed wallpapers were used to differentiate zones and complete the vibrant look. More than 300 linier metres of vinyl wallpaper was printed with a laminate suitable for cleaning and high traffic areas. We worked with the interior designer to provide the sizing and quality print required before installation.
Installation
The installation required planning and co-ordination with other suppliers to the site. We used technical drawings and photos to provide a solution that would allow the signs to be fixed to brackets that were being put in place by a third party. Scaffolding was required to install external signs to a living green wall on a staircase.
The wallpapers were applied as largescale wraps requiring skill and patience for the perfect finish. We also ensured that images lined up perfectly where vinyl wallpapers were applied around toilets, basins and curved or similar areas.
